Dimension Changes coming in 2.3!

Looks like some great things are happening to Dimensions come 2.3! Double the current item limits, new items, buildings WITH interiors, etc! Find all the good out below. Keep in mind, this is just the PTS so we may some some changes come before it launches on June 12th – though I can’t imagine that Dimensions will be affected negatively at all by any changes.

Taken from the forums:

Higher Item Limits

  • Yes, it’s true! Each dimension now has a fifth tier that doubles the existing maximum item limit of that dimension. This comes with a price tag that varies based on the dimension.

Four New Dimensions

  • Hailol – One word: Pink!
  • Temple of the Abandoned – This is a jungle-infused rotunda with stained-glass windows… and a peaceful place to return to after partying it up in Hailol.
  • Edge of Infinity – I’m proud to announce our first dimension in outer space! These are Crucia’s platforms above Telara. Edge of Infinity is granted at the Purple Tier of Loyalty.
  • Endless Eclipse – And this one is our first dimension in another plane: Regulos’ terraces in the Plane of Death.

Rift: Live Stream (F2P) Highlights.

Earlier today (May 17th) Trion hosted a Live Stream with James (Elrar), Simon (Dead Simon) and Bill (Daglar). This isn’t going to be a long-winded post – though I want to highlight some of the information that I found note-worthy.

Regarding Patrons:

  • Patron is the new term for subscriber.
  • Patrons will get a discount (likely 10%) on credit items in the Rift Store.
  • Patrons will get XP boosts and Rep boosts.
  • If you have a long term subscription (3, 6, 12+ Months) – you’ll receive a certain amount of credits per month you have left on your subscription – this number was not revealed. Update: As per Elrar’s comment below – this is a one time stipend payout of credits.
  • Loyalty will be given to users based on how many months they have subscribed in the past and the future – the number that was given out on the Livestream was 7000 per month. Do not confuse Loyalty with Credits – as far as I know Loyalty is used to unlock some exclusive  rewards in the Rift Store.

Trion Worlds hit by Layoffs – Rift team 100% unaffected.

Since we’re primarily a Rift related website, this news doesn’t really affect us directly except for the fact that it is Trion. I did want to post about it though just to clear up any confusion there may be.

There was a small (unknown) number of Layoffs within Trion earlier today, but the Rift team is 100% unaffected. This was confirmed by TRION directly to IGN as well as Daglar during this afternoon’s livestream. Trion released the following statement:

“To best position Trion in a rapidly changing industry, we have reorganized our teams and are expanding our free to play offering. With Defiance, we delivered a great game that more than one million gamers registered to play and continue to enjoy. As we progress from launch to ongoing development of the game, we are adjusting our staffing levels to deliver new content and improved features. RIFT, and our other titles in development, were unaffected by these changes. We are very much looking forward to the free to play release of RIFT and are excited by the other new titles currently in development.”

Update: Also worth noting – all affected employees appear to be getting a severance.…

Sneak peak WIP screenshot of the Rift Store

It’s only been two days since the announcement of Rift going free-to-play but there’s plenty of information out there on what we’ll be expecting. The Trion Rift devs and CMs have been busy answering questions that have been asked but Elrar shared something pretty important with us just a few minutes ago. He gave us a sneak peak at a work-in-progress look at the UI for the Rift Store that will be added on June 12th.…

RIFT 2.3 “Empyreal Assault” Launching June 12th.

In other.. news.. starting the same day that RIFT goes free to play (June 12th), 2.3 will be launched – which includes (though not yet a complete list):

In addition to announcing 2.3 there was a minor bomb dropped in that Daglar mentioned that there will be a “set” of dungeons in 2.4 (20 man). So there you have it, some juicy information to keep you going. He also mentioned certain plans for 3.0 – but there was nothing beyond mentioning 3.0 (the number itself) so I think that was just Daglar reassuring the community that RIFT has a roadmap even though it’s going F2P.

I’ve tested the 10 man on the PTS and although I believe it to be the most difficult 10 man to date – do you think the 10 man and the combination of the world bosses, new zone, etc will be enough to wet players appetites for the big 2.4 drop? Let me know in the comments.

Rift going free-to-play on June 12th

Wow, this is a rather huge announcement. Rift is going free-to-play on June 13th. I know people have been talking about this happening for quite some time but since it’s never been mentioned by any Trion developers or any other official medium, most people just shrugged this off as a “eventually but not right now” kind of thing. Well, it’s official now. Starting June 12th, Rift is going free-to-play.

For more information on the transition from subscription to free-to-play, you can read over the in-depth Rift developer diary as well as the free-to-play promotional page

Here’s a quick press-release on Rift’s announcement:

Redwood Shores, CA (May 14, 2013) – RIFT®, the award-winning online game from Trion Worlds, will adopt a free-to-play business model starting June 12, 2013. Players will be able to experience the entire game world; every dungeon, every zone, and every level and get full access to all current and future game updates. “We have been listening to feedback from our players and watching the continuously developing MMO community, and are now ready to launch RIFT as a premium free-to-play experience,” said Bill Fisher, Creative Director of RIFT.
